Understanding the Process

Take-Home Whitening Treatments

To begin the process of take-home whitening treatment, you’ll come in for a consultation with one of our doctors at Twenty28 Dentistry. They will take impressions of your teeth using dental putty, and send them to a dental lab where your custom whitening trays will be made.

In a few weeks, you’ll come back to get your whitening trays, along with a few tubes of whitening compound and detailed instructions from your doctor. You’ll whiten your teeth according to these instructions, usually for about an hour per day for 2-3 weeks.

Once your treatment is complete, your smile will look bright and brilliant once again. With take-home whitening, you don't have to spend much time in the dentist’s chair, and you can get more discreet results since your teeth will become gradually brighter over a period of several weeks. Nobody has to know you’ve had your teeth whitened unless you want them to!

Am I a Good Candidate

For Teeth Whitening?

We understand that teeth can become stained for many reasons including tobacco use and drinking dark beverages like coffee, tea, wine, and cola. Even the natural aging process can cause discoloration. If you have a healthy mouth that’s free of issues like gum disease and tooth decay and you would like to improve your smile, you’re most likely a good candidate for teeth whitening. Schedule a consultation today to get started.

Does Teeth Whitening Have

Any Side Effects?

The only common side effect of teeth whitening is tooth sensitivity. Your teeth may feel more sensitive to heat and cold during your treatment, and for a few days after you complete your whitening treatment. We recommend using a sensitivity toothpaste, like Sensodyne, to help minimize sensitivity during your treatment.

How Long Will

My Teeth Whitening Treatment Last?

The effects of teeth whitening treatment usually last between 1-3 years, though this depends on how well you care for your teeth. To keep your smile bright for years to come, it is important to make sure you brush and floss regularly and see the team at Twenty28 Dentistry every six months for a teeth cleaning and oral exam. If you are a tobacco user, try to stop smoking or using tobacco products as this will discolor your newly whitened teeth.

You may also want to consider cutting back on the consumption of staining beverages like coffee, tea, wine and cola. Rinsing your mouth with water or mouthwash and brushing after drinking these beverages also helps prevent staining. Using a straw to drink dark beverages can also help as this prevents the liquid from contacting your teeth.

Brushing with a whitening toothpaste and mouthwash with peroxide can also help you keep your smile bright and preserve the effects of your whitening treatment. We also recommend periodic whitening touch-ups for the best long-term results.
